When a situation arises wherein there is a sudden demise of an individual, filing of his/her IT returns is a difficulty that is faced by many. The legal heir of a deceased will be able to file the returns on behalf of the latter by following the below mentioned procedure:
1.The legal heir is required to get a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) in his own name.
2.The legal heir needs to make a request by sending a mail to efiling.administrator@incometaxindia.gov.in / efiling@incometaxindia.gov.in mentioning the following:
Details:
– Name of the deceased
– PAN of the deceased
– Date of Birth of the deceased
– Date of Birth of the deceased
Documents:
Scanned attachment of the death certificate of the deceased
3. On receipt of above, the legal heir would be enabled to file the return of deceased using the legal heir’s DSC
