When an assessee files his/her Income Tax returns online, without using a digital signature, the Income Tax department generates an acknowledgment form ITR V. For security reasons, this form is password protected. This acknowledgment is required to be printed, signed by the assessee and sent to Bengaluru by post within 120 days of filing the return online
Good news!! The Income tax department has extended the last date for sending the ‘Income Tax Return Verification Form’ ITR-V to 31-10-2011 or the 120 days from the date of upload, whichever is later. Earlier this relaxation was only extended to 30-06-2011.
The department has further extended this relaxation because around 10-15% of the returns are pending for e-filing because of digital signatures or wrong e-filing.
Income tax returns without digital signature are required to be sent to the following postal address:
Income tax department, CPC, Post bag no. 1, Electronic city post office, Bangaluru-560100.
These returns are required to be sent either by ordinary post or speed post. Returns sent through registered post will not be accepted by the department
